Programm International Children’s Peace Prize 2008

December 4th, 2008: Award Ceremony International Children’s Peace Prize
The 2008 Children’s Peace Prize Ceremony will be on the 4th of December from in the Ridderzaal in The Hague. Guest of honour: Desmond Tutu.

November 19th, 2008: Celebrity Circus
In honour of the International Children’s Peace Prize 2008, KidsRights has initiated a Celebrity Circus Show. Celebrities are training with professional circus artists to put together a spectacular event. On this evening the recordings for the Celebrity Circus TV show will be made.

December 14th, 2008: RTL4 program International Children’s Peace Prize
On December 14th RTL4 is broadcasting a TV special on the International Children’s Peace Prize. In this special the follwing great artists, supporting KidsRights are involved: Ilse de Lange, Alain Clark, Nurlaila Karim and Amy McDonald.

December 20th, 2008: Celebrity Circus TV show
On Saturday night the 20th of December the Celebrity Circus show will be broadcasted at RTL4.



Record amount of nominations in 2008

The deadline for sending in nomination has passed. This year we received a total of 45 nominations for the Children’s Peace Prize, of which 15 boys and 30 girls from all over the world. Each of these nominations shows the great strength of children. Out of these 45 nominations the expert committee made a selection of five candidates for the Children’s Peace Prize 2008. We are currently further researching their background.

We do however want to express great admiration for all children that were nominated and the expert committee also encourages them to continue with the good work for peace and children’s rights.

The ceremony of the Children’s Peace Prize will take place in The Hague, the Netherlands on 4th December 2008 and will be presented by Desmond Tutu.



The International Children’s Peace Prize 2008

At the end of this year the International Children’s Peace Prize will be awarded again to a child that has devoted a lot of his or her energy to improving the rights of children. The deadline for nominating children this year will be August 1, 2008. You can contact us by mailing to info@childrenspeaceprize.org for more information.

The criteria:
  • Between the age of 12 till 18 years old.
  • An inspiring personality.
  • The child has have to developed its activities in the field of children’s rights already for some time.
  • These activities must have lead to at least some concrete results.

The Winner of the 2007 International Children’s Peace Prize
Thandiwe Chama from Lusaka, Zambia

16th December 2007

During the official ceremony in the ‘Ridderzaal’ in The Hague is the International Children’s Peace Prize 2007 presented by Nobel Peace laureate Betty Williams and Sir Bob Geldof to Thandiwe Chama from Zambia for her achievements in relation to children’s rights. She is 16 years old and lives in one of the poorest neighbourhoods of the capital. Against all odds, Thandiwe is successful at school and even reaches out on a daily basis to make a difference for those other vulnerable children who need help. .
